I cannot locate a Library of Congress number for an item, but it has the Dewey number 784.5. The item is a DVD titled Elvis: Rare Moments with the King, ISBN 076621091X.
Any suggestions where I can find the LOC number? Is there a website which shows the Dewey and LC equivalents? (I've already looked for the item in First Search and the Library of Congress catalog.)

I checked all the libraries that held that book and they all used Dewey. So you are going to need to go into the record in Aleph (after v.17 is live) and add a LOC number that you are going to have to create manually. You will have to look around at what other Elvis videos are cataloged under and try to create a unique number. This happens every now and then, and is good cataloging practice. Lots of our theatrical videos have this happen, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens every now and then. I wouldn't mess with the OCLC number - I leave that to the professional catalogers and to LOC themselves.
Heather, thanks for checking on it and for the advice. Here's where my critical thinking skills come into play, right?
Chandra,
Here are some sites that will help:
Dewey to LLC
http://www.questionpoint.org/crs/html/help/en/ask_map_ddctolcc.html
and tables for the cutter numbers:
http://www.slc.bc.ca/cheats/lccnums.htm
Enjoy!
Sara
The end of the first URL should be:
ask_map_ddctolcc.html
I'm not sure why it didn't show up on the first post (?)
Here is another good site: I use the cutter number tables (under part II) quite a bit:
http://www.lib.virginia.edu/
cataloging/manual/
appendices/appx6.html
I had to split it down to get the whole URL to show, so it may not paste right.
