Hi everyone! I've been lurking, but finally got things straigtened out :-)
Anyone else getting students wanting to make their papers "pretty"? adding pictures to title page and/or within their papers, etc. and thinking their Ref page should pretty as well. Or have been told by one of their instructors that they like pictures used in papers? Just curious. Thanks!

I haven't encountered students with "pretty" papers. However, I often have students who try to have three separate documents for a paper (title page, body, and reference page) instead of an all-in-one document. Maybe we should offer an open workshop about formatting papers.
I think that students would LOVE a workshop on formatting papers.
Once, In Ocala, I sat with students in a Microsoft Word class and showed them how to set up a paper. We typed in a dummy title and header and all that. Then we saved it as "PAPER SAMPLE" so that all they had to do was go back to that and their formatting would be ready to go for any paper.
On our campus, the tutor center puts on lots of presentations about paper formatting, studying, and "how to write a paper," type workshops. Very good stuff, although I wouldn't want to step on their toes by doing the same thing.
