What are you reading...

Right now?

I don't mean this second, because obviously the answer would be "this blog" (hardy har har). What I mean is - what book, books, serial or serials are you reading? It doesn't have to be for work. I need some fresh ideas.

Gracias.

I'm reading Crime and Punishment, Syrup (thanks Dan), Metro Magazine, and have to start Atonement for the EP bookclub. I also love flipping through City Pages, Newsweek, and .... Glamour!!

I have also read Syrup, and I loved it.

I am currently reading Devil in the White City (about a murderer at the Chicago's World Fair of the late 1800s)

I am hooked on trashy celebrity scandals: US Weekly and Star :)

I'm Reading:

- "The Cluetrain Manifesto" (Re-reading )
- "Blog Marketing"
- "The Templar Legacy" - I'm a slave to cheap thrillers.
- "The Theory of Everything in a Nutshell"
- And when I have time, I'm meandering through a history of American Presidencies.

I just finished Suzanne Brockmann's new book Force of Nature.

Jodi Picoult is always good. Jennifer Crusie if you want something funny.

When I get the chance, I read People or US Weekly. Have to get my fill of trash before I "hit the books" next week :-)

I am reading Broken for You since it is our current book club selection. Last book club selection was Beach Road, easy-fast-mystery. Running with scissors was a book club selection that no one will ever forget.

I'm reading Literature Circles: Voice and Choice in Book Clubs & Reading Groups. It's the textbook for a course I'm taking for renewal of my teacher's certification.

I recently finished The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Have any of you read The Kite Runner? How about Reading Lolita in Tehran? Those are two books on my list of what I want to read next.

Finished up a couple of manga/graphic novel series the last month or so. Read the Star Trib everday (do the cryptoquip and the two crosswords at night before going to bed). Have been reading non-fiction by L. Hearn on ghosts and spirits in Japan, as well as non-fic on masks in Bali, masks in mexico, japanese tattoos, asian art. Just picked up "The Diana Chronicles' by Tina Brown (good already in the first 9 pages), and a fiction 'The Inquest' by Jeffrey D. Marshall that basically three points of view of three people involved with the death (and inquest) of a woman who died after having an abortion in Vermont in the early 1840s. (based on a real pamphlet from that time period that the writer came across and thought it would be interesting to say "What if...". I've been getting some interesting titles in advanced reading copies that I haven't had a chance to attack yet...:-) Those of you at the MLA convention in St. Cloud who saw my personal library know I have a great number of books (and tastes in books).

Sara, have you ever read a graphic novel called Cancer Vixen? I have read a lot of graphic novels, and this one was my favorite.

Sara said...

Yup, I've read Cancer Vixen, also Mom's Cancer and Fun Home. (Mom's Cancer is a very good story. I recomend all of Marjane Satrapi's books (she has 4 or 5 now).

In response to Chandra's question....

I have tried to read The Kite Runner; for some reason I had a difficult time getting into it. Maybe it's just not my type of book. I also have a tendency to hate best sellers; I'm an odd one.

Devil in the White City is one of the best books I've ever read.

I recall watching a movie that kind of referenced that tale, once.. but I don't remember the name of it.

I've recently started reading The Bourne Identity. I saw the movie a long time ago, but I'm not sure the book and movie have much in common. Guess I'll need to rent the movie when I've finished the book.
