Professor's Picks

Our Campus Dean and I were brainstorming about boosting circ. We came up with the idea of monthly or quarterly "Professor's Picks". It will be a display naming the instructor and there book picks for both leisure reading and coursework. We plan on starting it next quarter, they will announce their "picks" in class and we will distribute lists via email as well. Has anyone done a similar display/program?

Beth,
I think that's great! I do a similar display with Staff/Faculty picks. Last spring I put a form in everyone's mailbox to fill out for their favorite book, or what they were currently reading. I left space for them to write a summary/review/why they chose the book. I received several responses including recommendations from the campus director, dean, administrative assistants, admissions reps, and faculty/adjuncts. When the books came in I made bookmarks and placed them in each of the books with the name of staff/faculty, the title/author of the book and their summary/description of the book. I am planning to repeat this again this spring. It gets everyone involved in the library. When I did a workshop for admissions, the first thing one of the reps did was look up the book he recommended to see if I had purchased it.
