This brings to mind a session I once attended on Readers' Advisory. It was suggested that you could ask your patron about the last movie he/she enjoyed and use that to suggest books that have some of the same appeal characteristics, such as frame, pacing, characterization, etc.
Great find Libby, I looked up some of Motoko Rich's other articles and they seem very interesting as well. I'll keep an eye on this series.

Hi Dan - I actually get the NYT at home (Florida edition - goes to press awfully early, judging by the news it misses). It can take all week to read the huge Sunday paper, sometimes!
I had been waiting for this second part of the series. The editors sure are spacing it out ... maybe they are not sure how many parts it will have?
