question about how databases are refered to
I am curious to know how many others have questions from students who are frustrated because the instructor will say to 'look in the Ebscohost' and the students cannot find 'Ebscoshost' (just given that instead of a specific database or that it is found on the library page). I'm wondering if we can check with instructors and have them change it in their syllibi to at least say check the databases on the library page (wouldn't necessarily be an Ebsco database used in the search).

You can submit suggested wording to the Help Desk. And I suggest you say it just like that.
"A student contacted me from ENG1101 with problems locating an assignment. The instructions don't specify the database, which makes it hard to find the resources. Better wording for these instructions is below; it would be great if we can make a change to the wording in the course. Please let me know if you have any questions."
Also, I mentioned it to faculty during our meetings last Friday. They seemed to get it. I tried putting a positive spin on it by saying that it's really great faculty are having them go to our databases, we just have to make sure we're telling them the right database name/giving them the right instructions. It sounds like most of the time this seems to be happening w/ online classes and adjunct instructors.
Also, some instructors (even full-time) don't realize that Ebsco is the database provider, rather than the database itself. So, it helps just to remind them of that - same goes for students.
